...You put vinyl on it!!!

Question: What do you do when you are tired of your bathroom "look", but aren't ready for a total make-over?
Answer: You put VINYL on it!

... So that's what I did! Just like I did in my kitchen this past summer, I "jazzed" up my bathroom with a bit of fun vinyl. I choose the olive color to compliment my "lovely" backsplash, and added black as well. I really like the finished product, and I like my bathroom again too (added bonus). It was so easy to put on, and I've washed that part of the wall a few times already, and they are sticking well. Now, when I brush my teeth, I can't help but SMILE!!

You gotta love vinyl!

This is a picture of the barn that I "pimped out" for Tanner this fall. He LOVED the John Deere on it!
This was another "Tanner project". For Grade 4 Science they had to make Structures. Tanner, of course, chose the Paterson grain elevator in Crystal City (my future farmer!). So, together we designed the base of the elevator, and added bins, etc. I suggested we should put the Paterson logo on the elevator, and Tanner said "Mom, can we do it in vinyl?" To which I replied "Yes!". I think it turned out pretty cool... and Tanner got a great mark for his efforts!

(Take note of the tiny lettering on the trucks; Wawanesa Belmont Transfer and TAKLE Farms - Tanner Adam Kevin Laura Lee Emma).

So, think of new ways to change and re-vamp old things - to make you love them again!!

cruisin' with vinyl

I am so excited to give you some pretty amazing news when it comes to my vinyl!!!!!

Some of my vinyl is teaming up with product from two FABULOUS companies to create a Crop and Cruise layout kit!!!!!!! My sister, Jill Hildebrand, was asked to create a layout kit as a past Featured Instructor of the cruise event. And............she asked ME for some vinyl to complete the kit.

Weekend weather!!!

What a great weekend to be in the outdoors! My local drill team (and others) went on a trail ride thru the valley near Clearwater. It was AMAZING!! We had great weather, and wonderful views. Thanks again to Kristi for allowing us to ride thru your pastures, and for making sure I got in a few pictures!

This is just an updated picture of my kitchen. Yup, I broke down and finally painted my cupboards! What do you think? Blog Poll: should I also paint the uppers???

I'll keep you posted on the results of the poll, and future pictures if need be.

MIA no more!

Yes, I'll admit I was M-I-A there for the summer, and I appologize. But.... I'm back!!

Here's a little peek at some of the EXTRA things I've done with vinyl over the summer.

I built this barn for Emma last Christmas. How much fun is this????

(I also "pimped out" Tanner's barn, but apparently haven't got a picture of it yet...stay tuned for that one. Two words: John...Deere).

This is another FUN little goodie I popped up in my kitchen. It happened to be a day that I was spending a lot of time at my sink doing apples for the freezer. Let me tell you, it made the job more enjoyable. Oh, now the ideas are endless!!!

We are back into our regularily scheduled life. Harvest is near-done, and the kids are back to school. If you are allowed to make "September resolutions", mine is to post more often. There will be a little game about that later.... Well, enjoy your day, the sun is trying to shine. I'll leave you will a picture of our first day back to school!!!

A few weekends back I was in Brandon for the Scrapbookers Charity Convention, and had a BLAST!! In prep for the weekend, I designed some new vinyl pages. Some vinyl sheets come in 12x12, while others come in 6x12, and you can choose from lots of different colors (see picture at the end).

4. Love words (12x12) - shown in silver...very nice!!

The following are all 6x12 sheets, however some photos may look like they are 12x12 (due to 2 colors being together on a picture).

But, we scrappers like LOTS of color, so I'm sure there is something here that sparks your interest!

Yeah, I scrapped last night! Thanks to my gal, Brandy, I was able to do a little bit for ME!
This one is my daughter Emma at the winter fair. PLEEZ... can I have a bunny mom??
(no vinyl here, just goodies from the table).

This is my new favorite picture of my husband and I (and trust me, I don't get many chances here for photo-ops). A fun collection of flowers, and a bit of whimsy with the vinyl to the side.

Happy Birthday to you...

Just wanted to say "Happy Birthday" to a few special people in my life.

First, my sweet husband, Kevin - 33 years young yesterday. Also our 12th anniversary this past Sunday! What an amazing man to wake up to every morning... the love of my life!

Also a great big "Happy Birthday" to my best gal, Brandy! (won't say the number or she'll get me).

These pictures were taken on Sunday night in Brandon. We "got" our husbands real good. We arranged everything without them knowing: childcare, chores, even the 4H meeting Kev was supposed to have that night. Mid-afternoon we ended up at their house, where my in-laws picked up the kids for the night. We basically just told our men to get in the car, and don't ask questions. It wasn't until we were in line for the concert at the Keystone Center, that they knew what was going on. It was great! We went and saw George Canyon and Corb Lund perform. It was a lot of fun!

Even though the entire night was great, the best part was surprising them - they had no idea.

(can't wait for next year!)

my sister made me.....

Last week I spent some time scrapping. It doesn't happen very often, but I tried. My great friend, Brandy, was on a cruise with her company (Close to my Heart). Even though I couldn't go with her, I thought I should at least scrap in her honor. I was telling my sister, Jill, about it yesterday, and she asked why they weren't on the blog. So, my sister made me do it!.....

This was just a fun LO to do. (the orange brackets are vinyl).

Not quite content with this LO yet...a work in progress.

I added these pictures from my daughter's 6th birthday party last month. She loves crafting, so as part of the kids' goodie bags, they decorated these wooden hearts. First they painted them after school, and by after supper they were ready for vinyl! This shows you how easy the vinyl is to apply. These girls had a BLAST! I had done a variety of designs for them to choose from, and of course, each of their names.

Aparently, this was "the best birthday party EVER!!!" Well done girls!

Vinyl on Layouts...yes I DO scrapbook!

Yes, I do scrapbook. Sometimes. I am not usually productive at crops, etc, but rather enjoy puttering away at a LO in between laundry loads on my days off from the vet clinic. I recently printed off these pics from the summer, and had a really enjoyable time creating these pages. My style, as you'll see, is quite simple and plain (nothing on it - like my burgers!!).

Vinyl used: black bird, and orange title (incl. the heart)

I loved these pictures. Right now I use a binder-style album, and I love it! I also scrap in 12x12, 8x10, 9x9 and even 6x6 - all together. I love how it shows a layered-look to my album.

This is a great photo of my daughter Emma, and my niece Asha. I loved the paper (not what I normally use).

Vinyl used: the pink butterflies/dragonfly (yeah, that's it!)

This is a page I kicked-out yesterday (day off). My vinyl order came in, and the grey was different than I've got before. It was a bit more silver-grey (not sure if you can tell from the picture though). The shapes give a bit of a modern feel (so unlike me!).

Vinyl used: silver-grey shapes and butterfly (classic "me")

This one is just a fun mix of stuff laying around on my desk.

Vinyl used: "time" in ivory and teal "design"

I finally managed to scrap the kids' first day of school - yeah, it's February, not bad 'eh?!

Vinyl used: sky blue "3 KIDS off to school"

I loved this photo I found of my daughter. You know the ones... you printed off at the time, and thought you'd do something "special" with it someday, and then never did! So I bit the bullet and figured that actually being in my album instead of on a shelf is "special" enough. I stitched around the felt frame (from CTMH), and added a bit of bling to my chipboard hearts. Very girlie.

Vinyl used: NONE - believe it or not, I can scrap the odd time without it.

Hopefully I have inspired something... or else just enjoy!

Vinyl decor... you gotta love it!

Okay, so I met Heather from Winnipeg when she came out here to my friend Brandy's to scrap for the weekend. (What an awesome lady! - yeah, both of them!) So, Heather decided she wanted some vinyl to decorate her scrap space walls. This is what was decided...

I ABSOLUTELY loved the idea of the definitions on the walls. Here, we did Create, Inspire and Dream, in the definitions, and they added butterflies and a bird on a branch as well. You may have seen my sister Jill use this same branch/bird combo on her layouts (check out http://www.fromthefarm-jill.blogspot.com/) , but I never thought to place the branch up-and-down instead of sideways.

Here is a closer look at the definitions. The girls said they weren't hard to put on the walls either. I had done each definition in a large "chunk" together, so they didn't have too much small stuff to piece together.By the way, Heather, I LOVE the wall color. The white really pops on that blue.

I also sent along the same words, but in a larger font, that she decided to put along a separate wall. She added the brackets with the middle word - mostly I think because she really liked them!

(BTW - doesn't she look like the organizational guru! Anybody else looking at their own space right now, thinking about taking out that wall that leads to the livingroom!!)

The wall to the left of the one above, is a tan-color, so they placed the dark brown vinyl on it. Check this out...

I'm still here!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am still here...

It's been a crazy winter, but things are starting to settle down. Hockey is slowly coming to an end. The cows are starting to calve, and the weather seems to be getting nicer. Hope you are all watching and cheering on our Olympic athletes ... GO CANADA!

I got an email the other day from Mel in Saskatchewan (crazy gal!). She sent me a pic of a set of letters she had done of mine... LOVED it! So I thought I would share it with you all.

Well done, Mel. Very nice!

Now that I've figured how to put pics on this way, I hope to have more up on the blog in the next little while. I actually managed to scrap the other day last week, and of course, vinyl is on MOST every page. You gotta love it!

Hey there everyone. I am officially kidnapping this blog post again. It's been a VERY long time since I've updated some design team layouts & projects.

The other day, my baby sister delivered a fabulous package of vinyl goodies to my house -- actually they came home in my son's backpack from school -- we tend to do our deliveries that way {lol}.

Anyway..... there were some vinyl wall decors that I had specially ordered (to view photos, see my last few blog posts here). fabulous..... just fabulous.

So, I wanted to share some of the layouts that I've been working on the past few days -- actually I did most of them yesterday and one this morning.

Blessings:
Totally inspired by Prima products. I used Cut Your Way vinyl in the top right corner (plum journal spot) & in the leaves around the flowers. love these leaves -- very unique. I can see these on soooo many layouts.

The little girl on the lhs of the photo is actually creater & owner of Cut Your Way, Laura Lee's daughter: Emma. Mine is the lhs.

IN LOVE with these damask vinyl prints. I could have a hundred of them and I would not get sick of them -- one in every colour, please. Can you say "huge; like 12"; in black; on your feature wall in your house??? Get thinking.
secret wish: This large teal bracket actually was a 10" vinyl frame, and I just cut it apart. I'll save the other half for another project down the road. And not your typical frame; a little more whimsical -- just my style. My sister knows me so well.

And remember this project from a while ago?

I used the same vinyl title and created a layout: A Family Like You

And how about looking for some layout inspiration in your own home. This cloth recycled shopping bag was hanging on my barn door when I snapped this photo .......

.... which was the inspiration for this layout: Summer Up Do

I used the vinyl 5 inch scalloped circle frame in [teal]. And let's not forget about that cool little leave, or splash, or whatever you'd like it to be in [plum] next to the title. I know I'll be using just a few of those in the future.

Jill Hildebrand

Jill tries to bring her contagious personality and high energy to any Scrapbooking Convention that she attends & teaches at. Jill has been a design team member for several years for Smalltown Scrappers, a published scrapbook artist in numerous Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine issues and one of Crop and Cruise's Featured Instructors & team members. Best known in her area for colourful, layered layouts & projects, Jill encourages scrappers to go a little CRAZY and become excited about the products in front of them. She believe there are “No Mistakes – Only Unexpected Creations” in the Life Art we are creating.

Jill lives on a grain farm with her husband and three children. She has a Bachelor of Education, however currently is a SAHM & working as a substitute teacher. In any spare time, Jill enjoys home decorating, travelling & watching NBA games with her family.

**A big shout-out to the ladies from the weekend crop in Killarney last weekend. It was a fundraiser for a fabulous gal, Teresa Riglin, who is battling cancer right now. I had so much fun! Dallas Lees (age 7) cut her hair on the Saturday for "wigs for kids" - I am so proud of you Dal! All together, I think over $1300 was raised for the family. I love how we can get together to have fun enjoying our hobby, and yet make a difference for someone else... thanks for thinking of others!

I know it's been a while since I last updated... summer has flow by too fast for my liking. This will be a quick post to let you know what's coming up:

August 14 and 15 I will be in Killarney at a fundraising crop for a fabulous gal named Teresa Riglin. (if you are in the area - check it out!) For info on registration, go to http://www.killarneycrop.blogspot.com/

November 6,7,8 will be the annual Scrappin' at the Camp. This is the 4th year for this fun-filled weekend out at Camp Koinonia - just south of Boissevain, close to the Peace Gardens/US border. For your registration fee of $100, you get meals, lodging and a whole bunch of ME TIME.. from Friday 7pm until Sunday 2pm. I am so excited to be spending that weekend again with my bestest friends, new friends, and my mom and aunt (they are involved in the quilter-aspect of the weekend). If you are interested in joining us, let me know.

And last of all, I want to send a big YAHOO!!! out there to my favorite CTMH consultant, and best friend, Brandy Lees. She just got back from her leadership convention in California. At the awards night, she was presented with the #1 consultant in sales in Canada in 2008/09. Way to go!! (I told Kevin all those scrapbooking supplies I bought would come in handy sometime.)

What a weekend!!!

I had a fabulous weekend! I was at the local hall in Mather, at a two-day crop event. It was hosted by my best friend, and Close To My Heart rep Brandy Lees. We slept in the tent in the basement of the hall (and froze mind-you... almost as bad as REAL camping - minus the bugs!). We were joined by two lovely ladies on Friday night, and then they returned again on Saturday. (Shawna - love your dry sense of humor, and Lisa - YOU ROCK!!).

Okay, so you are all dying to know...... I got 17 Pages done!!!! That is an all-time record for me at a crop. (Jill, your organizational advise was HUGE!! Thanks).

I am trying to get pictures of some of those pages up on the blog, but having trouble with the scanner here at work (oops, did I say I was doing personal stuff at work?? - it's my lunch break, and we have high-speed here....WWAAAYYYY nicer than at home). I will try to get them up on the blog in the next few days. Just know that, yes Shawna, I used vinyl!!

Okay, ladies, here we go! After a long, and patient wait, I am back! These are the wonderful goodies I wanted to share with you. VINYL ! ! !

Wow, the colors are amazing, and the designs are ENDLESS!!! I am having so much fun with these on my wooden frames, and continuing that fun in my scrapbook pages too. Many of you have seen my vinyl, in Saskatoon and Brandon, and know the possibilities are limitless.

I love the look of the flourishes shown here, and the butterfly is beautiful. I am planning to decorate a scrap room of a certain sister, with butterflies of various sizes "flying" on the wall and out the door/window. Can't you just see it! (Let's get at it Jill!!)

After seeing the designs, and thinking on how I could do more with the scrapping end of things, I started looking at titles for pages, etc. And got these......

I am super excited about these, because I am always stumped on the title for my pages. Now, I actually have the titles, and now have to design the layout to go with it. How Fun!

I am looking at adding some family words in the next little while (ie. auntie, unc, nanna, opa, ma). I think in that way the vinyl will be nice, because I don't see those words very often, especially if you have certain little "quirky" names for your family members. No, not those words (it's a family show, ladies!).

I am off this weekend to a local crop (yes, I do stay home now and then, just maybe THEN for right now). I am so excited for this crop, because 1- it's the last one before summer (which means that summer should be coming soon) and 2- because THIS time I am prepared. I usually end up most of the time sorting through paper and boxes of embellishments for pages, and then end up using the same ones anyway. This time, thanks to advise from a certain sister (thanks Jill!) I spent one night and put ALL my paper out on the floor. I then pulled out 4-5 sheets that I thought could possibly go together on a layout, and put then in a bag together......continue on for the next two hours, and I have all my paper packed up for the weekend. I then moved on to embellishments, and even pulled out all my older stuff. Same thing, bags of goodies that would work together. NOW>>>> pull out picture, grab paper bag, trinket bag to go with, and VIOLA! It's a layout. I have high hopes of actually acomplishing something this weekend... will let you know how it turns out!!!

Changes, changes, changes

If this is the first time here, you may not understand. However, if you follow this blog you will notice that it has changed. It feels right now!! Hope you enjoy. I will try to get the goodies up that I promised you all last week. I am getting ready for the Brandon Scrapbookers Convention this coming weekend, so the week is kinda crazy... but I will try. I have finally made it home from my weekend in Saskatoon. I was at a scrapbooking convention.... where I met some AMAZING women. I had a blast out there! I went out with my sister, Jill, and we each taught a class on Saturday. We left Saskatoon at 8 o'clock last night, and got to my door just after 4 in the morning! (very short night, but glad to be home).

Just wanted to say a big HI to everyone I met in S'ktoon... Thanks for inviting us Leica. I will be updating the blog in the next few days, with some projects on the go, and some up-coming goodies I'm working on.... stay in touch.

I also got to catch up this weekend with Jackie Ludlage from Canadian Scrapbooker magazine, and Allison Orthner ... two wonderful gals I had the opportunity to meet when I went on the Crop and Cruise event last month in the Carribean. Cut your way began in my garage, about 2 years
ago (as Wooden Decorative Designs). My family and friends asked me to cut designs out of wood for them, and it has grown from there. I started with letters - like the photo of FAMILY. The standard font that I cut is this one, where the letters vary from 6" to 9" high. I really like how the vary in sizes adds some "funk" to the project.

I can also cut different fonts, sizes and designs. The price varies depending on the degree of difficultly in cutting, and the size. The regular font letters are $5 each. Just ask me cut... whatever you want... I love to hear what people have in mind, and then get them what they want. Custom, hand-made designs... one-of-a-kind!!

Cut your way frames are fun and easy to decorate. You can custom-make your frame to suit your own home decor, or they make great gift ideas.

The frame pictured here is 18" by 18", with an openning for a 4x6" picture. This one was painted, and then embossed with white embossing powder from Close to my Heart (LOVE this company and their consultants!!).

Frames come 9x9" ($5 each), 12x12" ($9 each) and 18x18" ($12 each).... or custom size one for a special spot on your wall!

Depending on where you live, there would be a shipping fee involved. However, I would love to work with you for the best deal possible - bulk orders... get friends excited too! A neat idea to do with a few girlfriends for an evening get-together. Or a great gift for a new mom. Whatever you decide to do with them, you will LOVE decorating these frames (just ask my sister, who has about 4 of them in her home.... and not just because I make them!).

Yes...I now have a blog! A BLOG!! I have just entered the next stage of my life, and have gotten a blog! Just because I have a blog, doesn't mean I know how to use it yet... so please be patient with me. My hope for this, is that it will be a place for people to contact me, and request items that I make. It will be a place to post inspiration in the ways of creating projects and generating new ideas.
